New Digital Ad Slams Senator Jon Husted's Vote Against Stopping AI Use in Medicare Treatment Denials
Retired Americans Action ad focuses on Ohio senator's vote against legislation to stop controversial Medicare program
COLUMBUS, OH — Today, Retired Americans Action, an independent political arm of the Alliance for Retired Americans, is opening a potent new line of attack against Senator Jon Husted.
The committee launched a new digital ad slamming Senator Jon Husted's vote against legislation to stop a controversial new Medicare pilot program that uses artificial intelligence to determine whether a treatment will be covered.
WATCH “DECISIONS”
The pilot began in 2026 in six states, including Ohio. Since the program’s launch, patients and providers have reported significant problems and delays in treatment. On July 16, Husted voted against a motion to proceed to a resolution that would have overturned the program. The measure failed by a party-line vote of 46–50.
The nearly $1 Million ad buy begins September 30 and will be shown exclusively to likely older voters statewide on streaming services, YouTube, and social media. According to a national survey of voters aged 60 and older by GBAO earlier this year, 70% oppose using artificial intelligence to make treatment-eligibility decisions. More than 2.133 million Ohio voters are over the age of 65, or 27% of the electorate.
“Senator Husted had a chance to stand up for older Ohioans and their doctors, but instead, he sided with AI corporations who make money by denying Medicare claims,” said Richard Fiesta, Treasurer of Retired Americans Action. “Older Americans work a lifetime to earn their Medicare benefits and they should not have to jump through endless hoops to get the treatment their doctors prescribe. Come November, Ohioans will remember who had their backs and who sold them out.”
